WAPCMLS Conference & AGM 2026
Building Resilient Laboratories through Empowerment and Training for West Africa Health Future

West Africa's laboratory medicine community is gathering in Accra this October for the most significant event on the WAPCMLS calendar. The 2026 Regional Conference and Annual General Meeting, co-hosted by Ghana and The Gambia, brings together Fellows, residents, researchers, regulators, and industry partners from across the ECOWAS region and beyond for three days of science, networking, and professional growth.
Under the theme "Building Resilient Laboratories through Empowerment and Training for West Africa's Health Future," the conference tackles the most pressing challenges facing laboratory professionals today — from strengthening laboratory systems that can withstand health emergencies, to harnessing digital health technologies, artificial intelligence, and molecular diagnostics that are rapidly transforming how we detect and respond to disease.
What to Expect
The scientific programme features keynote addresses from leading experts, peer-reviewed oral and poster presentations, interactive panel discussions, and workshops spanning ten thematic areas — including antimicrobial resistance, haematology and blood transfusion science, immunology and vaccinology, public health laboratory systems, quality assurance and accreditation, and capacity building for the next generation of laboratory professionals.
This year's programme includes special joint Ghana–Gambia sessions, reflecting the co-hosting arrangement and celebrating the collaborative spirit that defines the College. Outstanding research will be recognised through awards for Best Oral Presentation, Best Poster Presentation, Young Scientist Award, and Best Research Innovation.
Who Should Attend
Whether you are a seasoned Fellow, a resident in training, a researcher looking to present your latest findings, or a health systems leader shaping laboratory policy in your country — this conference is for you. The event also serves as the Annual General Meeting of the College, where members participate in governance decisions, review annual reports, and chart the strategic direction of WAPCMLS.
Call for Abstracts Now Open
Researchers and laboratory professionals are invited to submit abstracts for oral or poster presentation. Abstracts should reflect original research, innovations, case studies, or reviews aligned with the conference theme.
