WAPCMLS Elects Dr. Haddy Bah as President

The West African Postgraduate College has elected Dr. Haddy Bah as the 3rd President of the College, taking over from Prof. Eugene Ifeanyichukwu Ikeh, fwapcmls.

Dr. Bah is the Chief Scientist and Researcher at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, and a Lecturer at the University of The Gambia’s School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences.

She holds a PhD in Microbiology and is a Fellow in Medical Virology, with extensive expertise in infectious diseases and public health. Her primary research interests lie in human papillomavirus (HPV) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)—critical areas that impact both clinical outcomes and public health policy. Dr. Bah has led and contributed to several high-impact projects, including the successful implementation of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, which has become a model for rational antibiotic use in the region.

Her contributions extend to health policy and strategic planning, where she actively supports the Gambia Ministry of Health in crafting evidence-based frameworks to guide the sector.

She has authored peer-reviewed publications and has presented her research at both national and international conferences, furthering the global conversation on infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship.

She is recognized for her leadership, collaborative approach, and commitment to strengthening health systems through research, education, and policy advocacy.
